FUELLING YOUR DREAM
COME AND MEET DAWN FRASER

The Winnebago Fuel Consumption Safari

From the Gold Coast Qld to Winton Victoria - July 27 to August 1

Winnebago is about to conduct an RV Fuel Consumption Run from the Gold Coast in Queensland to Winton Raceway in Victoria, arriving for the next exciting V8 Supercar series race.

Led by the NRMA who will also supervise fuelling of the test RV’s, a convoy of four motorhomes of various sizes, a fifth wheeler and a caravan plus some privately owned motorhomes will depart Treasure Island Tourist Park on the Gold Coast on July 27, overnighting at Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie before arriving in Sydney on July 29. Then it’s on to Winton via Yass, Wagga Wagga, Albury and Wangaratta, arriving at Winton Raceway on August 1

At each town along the way, we are inviting the local people to come along and look at the RV’s and meet the team including legendary champion, Dawn Fraser and possibly Dick Johnston of V8 Supercars fame. Also accompanying the group will be a number of motorhome owners driving their own Motorhomes to share the experience of the run.

The Fuel Economy Run is being supported by a number of well known organisations including the NRMA, Dick Johnson Racing, V8 Supercars, Winton Raceway, Isuzu Australia, Iveco Australia Fiat Australia, Brisbane Winnebago, Australian Motorhomes and Sydney RV.

Why are we doing all this?

Rural Australia stands to suffer the consequences of higher fuel costs because if less people travel, less will be spent in those areas. At any given time 75000 RV’s are on extended travel and spend on average $600 per week each on fuel, accommodation, food and entertainment. That’s $45 million per week given to mainly rural centres. It is this that is at risk.

The cost of fuel is topical right now and the media focus on the upward spiral of world oil prices is possibly causing a rethink in many Australian households on how best they spend their hard earned cash in pursuit of fun and relaxation, yet many people do not realise that fuel use in a Motorhome is, in many cases about the same as your average large family car.

Motorhomes, in addition to a surprisingly low fuel consumption rate, also take advantage of low stop over rates at Caravan Parks, even free stops in legal free camp areas, avoiding the high cost of hotel accommodation and also provide the facility to prepare meals and avoid the expense of eating out daily as would otherwise be the case.

Motorhomers can save up to 75% against the more expensive option of driving a car and paying daily for a bed and restaurant meals.

The Fuel Consumption Safari will finally arrive at Winton Raceway on August 1 to the fun and excitement of V8 Supercars.

The final fuel consumption figures will be authenticated by the NRMA and should continue to highlight that travelling by Motorhome is the most economical way overall to see the wonderful sights that Australia has to offer.

The public is invited to come along and meet the team and view the RV’s as the Safari arrives in each town along the route.
